For many of our people, the day starts before sunrise.
It’s pulling on your boots in the dark, heading to site, prepping for the shift ahead and getting the job done safely. In mining, maintenance and shutdown environments, we’re trained to identify hazards before they become incidents. Through pre-starts, JSEAs, Take 5s and toolbox talks, we continuously assess risks and look out for the people around us. Yet some of the most important check-ins happen beyond the job itself, because not every challenge a person faces is visible on a risk assessment.
Yesterday, teams across Wisely took the opportunity to pause, connect and support one another as part of RUOK? Day 2026.
Across our sites, conversations happened over BBQs and team gatherings. While the settings were different, the message was the same: a simple conversation can make a real difference.
For many Australians working in regional, remote and high-pressure environments, life can be demanding. Long hours, rostered work, time away from family, and the everyday challenges of balancing work and life can sometimes take a toll.
That’s why checking in with a mate matters.
Not because we have all the answers. Not because we’re experts. But because taking the time to ask, listen, and genuinely care can help someone feel supported when they need it most.
One of the things that makes our industry special is the strong sense of mateship that exists across crews, teams and worksites. It’s the bloke who notices when someone seems quieter than usual. It’s the teammate who takes a moment to ask how things are really going. It’s the simple act of being present and listening.
Those conversations may seem small, but they can have a lasting impact.
We were incredibly proud to see how our people embraced RUOK? Day across the business. More importantly, we were proud to see the genuine care shown for one another.
Because while RUOK? Day is a valuable reminder, the message doesn’t begin and end on one day of the year.
The best teams don’t just work together. They look out for each other.
So as the BBQs are packed away and the banners come down, we encourage everyone to carry the message forward. Check in with your mates. Reach out to a colleague. Call a friend. Ask the question.
Not next RUOK? Day.
Any day.
Because one conversation could make all the difference.
