Once an icon of Queensland’s rugged Bowen Basin, the Newlands mine reached the end of its 42-year lifespan in 2023. It made history in 2017 as the first Queensland coal mine to achieve rehabilitation certification. Wisely provided a number of services to the Newlands Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) during shutdown, including:
- Removal of a trio of 22-tonne conveyor overhead gantries and transportation to the Collinsville CHPP for future upgrades
- Removal and relocation of a Jameson Cell including associated componentry
- Design and fabrication of custom lifting and transportation jigs and stands.
Through careful planning and the design of specialised lifting solutions, Wisely ensured the safe recovery and transfer of large-scale plant equipment – supporting the transition of one of Queensland’s most historied coal operations.
